CNC Machinist / Programmer – 2nd Shift

This position requires eligibility to access Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and export-controlled data. Candidates must meet applicable federal requirements, including U.S. person status where required. This role is fully onsite and not eligible for remote work.

Position Summary

This is an advanced-level CNC Machinist / Programmer role responsible for independently setting up, programming, and operating complex CNC machining equipment with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate works autonomously, provides technical leadership to peers, troubleshoots advanced machining challenges, and drives continuous improvement across manufacturing processes.

This position works a second-shift schedule.

Key Responsibilities

Independently set up, program, and operate multi-axis milling machines, dual-spindle lathes, mill/turn centers, Wire EDM, and other advanced CNC equipment

Create, optimize, and validate CNC programs using Autodesk Fusion 360, Siemens NX, or comparable CAD/CAM software with minimal support

Develop and document machining processes, including toolpath optimization, workholding strategies, and process standardization

Perform first-article, in-process, and final inspections using CMMs, 3D scanners, and precision metrology tools

Lead root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions for quality issues

Diagnose and resolve complex machine, tooling, and process problems

Conduct advanced preventative maintenance and machine calibration; recommend performance improvements

Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior machinists and apprentices

Lead initiatives to improve cycle times, reduce scrap, and enhance process capability

Maintain compliance with ITAR, ISO, ANSI, and other regulatory standards

Collaborate with engineers, technical staff, and external partners to deliver projects on schedule

Promote a culture of safety and maintain a clean, organized workspace

Qualifications

Required:

Associate degree or diploma in Precision Machining Technology

Minimum 5 years of progressive CNC machining experience, including advanced multi-axis setup and programming

Proven ability to independently complete complex machining projects

Expert-level knowledge of CNC machining principles and precision manufacturing

Advanced CAD/CAM programming skills from complex models and technical drawings

Strong troubleshooting skills related to machines, tooling, and processes

Experience with process optimization, fixture design, and lean manufacturing

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to work independently while managing multiple projects

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel within Virginia and occasionally out of state

Preferred:

Experience in ITAR-regulated or ISO-certified environments

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs

Skilled in using basic hand tools

Frequent movement within a lab or shop environment

Comfortable using stepladders and operating technical equipment

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $75,000 – $85,000 plus applicable shift differential.
