Job Duties

Performs manual work providing litter control, and related work as apparent or assigned.  Work is performed under the supervision of the Landfill Director.

Essential Functions

  • Daily checks landfill property for and picks up blown litter
  • Daily checks property adjoining landfill for and picks up blown litter
  • Trims weeds in required areas; mowing
  • Steam cleans trucks and equipment as needed
  • Assists in emptying roll-off boxes
  • Cleans offices and maintenance shop
  • Assists in construction as needed
  • Operates scales as needed
  • Operates tractor and magnet to clean road of debris
  • Upon completion of Basic Duties of the Job Position, Scale Operator duties may be added
  • Other duties as required or assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Some knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with the work; ability to follow oral and written instructions; ability to operate weed eater, tractor and mowing equipment, physical ability to perform manual work; ability to work independently, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates.



Physical Requirements

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 25 pounds of force and occasional exertion of up to 75 pounds of force; work regularly requires standing, walking and use hands to finger, handle or feel, frequently requires reaching with hands and arms, occasional lifting and repetitive motions and occasionally requires speaking or hearing, pushing or pulling; work requires standard vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus, depth perception, and peripheral vision; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; work requires observing general surroundings and activities; work requires occasionally working near moving mechanical parts and regularly working in outside weather conditions.  May be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment; work is generally in a noisy location (e.g. heavy traffic, large earth-moving equipment).
