Engineering Supervisor

The Engineering Supervisor provides both technical support and administrative leadership within the engineering group. This role includes responsibility for overseeing engineers and designers, managing client projects, and supporting team development and business growth. The position balances billable project work with leadership duties such as mentoring, recruiting, performance management, and strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage engineering projects, ensuring schedule adherence and technical excellence.

  • Provide technical expertise to resolve engineering problems and ensure project quality.

  • Serve as the Responsible Charge Engineer on client assignments.

  • Coach, mentor, and review work of subordinate engineering professionals.

  • Support recruiting efforts and participate in candidate interviews.

  • Approve timecards and expense reports; assist in performance reviews.

  • Contribute to business development and strategic planning for the group.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to support project and business goals.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Supervisory Duties:

  • Oversee day-to-day activities of engineers and designers.

  • Support staffing decisions and team development initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Civil Engineering required. ABET-accredited degree preferred.

  • Experience: Minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing engineer or equivalent.

  • Licensure:

    • Required: State registration as a Professional Engineer for Transmission and Substation roles.

    • Preferred: PE license for Distribution Engineering roles.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and solve complex technical issues.

  • Knowledge of engineering principles, project management, and business operations.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in interpreting scientific and technical documents, engineering procedures, and project specifications.

  • Ability to write formal reports and correspondence.

  • Competence in geometry, trigonometry, probability, and statistical analysis.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant engineering tools.

Soft Skills:

  • High degree of professionalism and initiative.

  • Strong leadership and team-building capabilities.

  • Client-focused mindset with attention to quality and efficiency.

  • Effective at influencing decisions and building professional relationships.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, talking, hearing, and use of hands.

  • Occasional climbing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and light lifting (up to 10 lbs).

  • Visual requirements include close vision, distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily office-based with occasional exposure to outdoor weather or field conditions.

  • Possible exposure to electrical risk and wet or humid environments.

  • Noise level is typically quiet (e.g., private office setting).
