Position Overview:
The Plant Director leads day-to-day and strategic operations of a large, complex manufacturing facility. This role oversees all aspects of plant performance, including safety, production, quality, maintenance, warehousing, logistics, finance, and human resources. This position is responsible for meeting operational and financial goals, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws, standards, and internal policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Direct all plant functions to meet production, quality, and cost objectives.
Plan and manage production schedules to ensure customer delivery timelines are met.
Monitor facility performance using reports and metrics; resolve operational or supply chain issues proactively.
Coordinate with department heads to ensure alignment with company goals.
Manage facility spending and maintain budgetary compliance across departments.
Implement and monitor standardized procedures and best practices for consistent execution.
Foster a safety-first culture through training, audits, and compliance initiatives.
Promote a high-performance culture through talent development, performance evaluations, and employee engagement.
Provide strategic guidance on capital investments, equipment upgrades, and process improvements.
Maintain effective communication with internal teams and external stakeholders.
Submit monthly operational reports to regional or executive leadership.
Managerial Responsibilities:
Lead a cross-functional management team including production, maintenance, logistics, safety, HR, and finance.
Responsible for staffing decisions, employee development, disciplinary actions, and policy enforcement.
Address employee concerns and drive initiatives that support a positive workplace culture.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; preferred fields include Engineering, Operations Management, or Business Administration.
Master’s degree preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in plant or operations management, preferably in plastics, packaging, or a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Minimum of 3 years in a senior leadership role overseeing plant-wide functions.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong leadership and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
Broad knowledge of manufacturing operations, safety regulations, quality systems, and labor management.
Ability to analyze data, generate operational insights, and lead process improvements.
Strong communication skills and experience presenting to executive teams or external partners.
Knowledge of ERP systems (SAP or equivalent) and production planning tools.
Familiarity with business disciplines such as budgeting, capital planning, and regulatory compliance.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Manufacturing facility environment with exposure to machinery and warehouse activity.
Must be able to navigate the production floor, attend off-site meetings or travel as needed.
Occasional lifting, standing, or extended walking may be required.
