Location: Independence, VA (on-site)


The Plant Controller manages all financial control and accounting activities for our Independence, VA manufacturing site including general and cost accounting. This position addresses tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including cost accounting, sales tax reporting, general ledger preparation, year-end audit preparation, and the support of budget and forecast activities. The Plant Controller will also be part of a team that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve, and document accounting issues in addition to creating procedures to make the close and reporting processes more efficient and accurate.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitors plan operation results against operating plans & prepare the monthly financial statements.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Handles the cost accounting, and inventory valuation and tracks labor costs & overhead.
  • Ensures the plant’s financial control processes & systems comply with company policies, and applicable regulations and provide required information.
  • Support the site to meet or exceed all annual financial metrics.
  • Monitor, analyze, and report monthly actual results against the budget.
  • Work closely with operational leadership to ensure that all financial transactions and reporting are complete, accurate, and timely.
  • Support the coordination of all external financial audits and address any audit findings with plant operational leadership.
  • Perform frequent walk-throughs of the manufacturing site with the General Manager to address production and costing issues.
  • Maintain fixed asset records in compliance with company policy and GAAP.
  • Key site contact for payroll and benefits 
  • Any other responsibilities that may be assigned by the site leader.

  • Possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner 
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and maintain control and order over the same 
  • Good GAAP and financial reporting technical skills 
  • Exceptional work ethic 


Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors and/or Masters Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting. 
  • C.P.A. is preferred but not required 
  • 7+ years experience in the accounting field, in the manufacturing industry.
  • Strong experience in cost accounting.
  • Strong experience in the private accounting sector is required
